How To Install New Jeep Headlights

There are a number of different headlights that can be installed onto a used Jeep during servicing, but the best are LEDs which are large and bulbous as they are excellent for regular driving as well as off-roading activities. Below is a guide to installing them.

Step One

Extract the clips and screws which hold the frontal grille in position. Next, remove its frontal grille so it will be easier to access the headlights.

Step Two

Remove the 4 screws which hold the metallic bracket ring which surrounds the headlights.

Step Three

Remove the metallic bracket ring.

Step Four

Unplug its adapter then remove the older headlights.

Step Five

Put in the new LED headlights in the same location as the older lights, and then reattach the adapter. Note that if the Jeep uses the H4 socket rather than the H13, it is possible to apply an H4 to H13 conversion adapter, which should be included in your package.

Step Six

Test the head beam to see if it works. If it doesn’t, review the LED based driver module, the headlights and adapter to ensure no pins have been pushed outward. It might be necessary to re-pin its adapter, which can also be handled by a technician if you’re not familiar with it.

Step Seven

If you notice that your high beam needs multiple tries to activate, this probably means you don’t have sufficient power. If so, you’ll need to either replace the battery or use the relay harness to draw power directly from it.

Step Eight

If you notice that the high beam starts flickering periodically, you’ll want to install a device called the anti-flicker decoder to permanently resolve the issue.

Step 9

If you encounter any other issues with the headlights, it may be restricted to a single side. In this case, you’ll want to switch your LED based driver module container from the vehicle’s driver to passenger side or vice versa to determine if this resolves the issue.

Step 10

Once you’ve confirmed that the Jeep’s headlights function correctly, place the screws and metallic ring back into position. Once you’ve verified that all is secure, reattach the frontal grille.

Frequently Asked Questions

What advantages do LEDs have over traditional bulbs?

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) have become the modern illumination standard for multiple applications aside from automobile headlights, because they are long lasting, do not generate excessive heat and are more affordable than traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs.

Is it possible to place LED bulbs inside factory headlights?

Yes, this can be done, but it is important to make sure the lights aren’t excessively bright to nearby motorists. Many drivers and car manufacturers are switching from traditional headlamps to LEDs because they use far less energy.

What is the cost to replace Jeep headlights?

The exact cost will depend on multiple factors, such as the brand of headlights you purchase and whether you intend to perform the installation yourself or have a mechanic do it for you. If a mechanic does the installation they will charge you for their time and labor, which will increase the overall cost.
